Bangkok: The Prime Minister has issued a directive instructing provincial governors across the country to intensify their efforts in cracking down on mafia groups and to deport foreigners who violate Thai laws to their home countries. Anutin Charnvirakul, the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, emphasized that this crackdown is crucial for maintaining law and order in Thailand.
According to Thai News Agency, Anutin Charnvirakul criticized the move as "going beyond the reach of Lanka," noting that it is a privilege for foreigners to reside in Thailand. He stressed that those who break Thai laws should be sent back to their own countries and that the authorities need to enhance their capabilities in anticipation of the rainy season, which lasts until the end of the year. Anutin also announced the establishment of a board to oversee data centers, citing a lack of specific legislation in this area.
Anutin commended Deputy Minister of Interior Polpeera Suwannachawi for his efforts in prosecuting offenders and urged provincial governors in key provinces such as Phuket and Surat Thani to enforce the law rigorously. He stated that foreigners who live honestly in Thailand are welcome, but those who engage in aggressive or threatening behavior will face full legal action. He also expressed concerns about foreigners exploiting Thai society, particularly in the establishment of religious sites, and emphasized the need for mutual respect for Thai culture.
The Prime Minister reiterated that while Thailand welcomes foreign investment, it must be mutually beneficial, and the government is prepared to deport offenders after they have served their sentences and paid any required compensation. Anutin praised the efforts of the deputy ministers and the Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration in maintaining social order and preventing information leaks.
Anutin also addressed issues related to data centers, noting the lack of specific legislation governing them. He mentioned that while foreign investment is welcome, it must be balanced with the needs and safety of Thai society. The government has set up a board to draft regulations and guidelines to ensure fair use of resources and minimize environmental impacts.
In Bangkok, Governor Chatchart Sittipunt identified illegal data centers and fuel storage facilities, prompting a call for legal action. The government has urged relevant agencies to collaborate effectively in managing potential public impacts.
The Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Interior to establish a forward-line office to address issues in the southern border provinces, as resolved by the National Security Council. He praised the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation for its effective disaster response and emphasized the need for preparedness during the rainy season.
Anutin stated that transparency is a key priority for the Ministry of Interior and encouraged chairpersons of state enterprises to establish clear rules and regulations. He affirmed that any violations of these rules would be dealt with strictly, ensuring accountability within the government.
