Bangkok: Digital Economy and Society Minister Chaiyachanok Chidchob expressed minimal expectations regarding the resolution of three additional Senate collusion cases, asserting confidence that the truth will emerge through due process. He emphasized the importance of allowing all agencies involved to perform their duties effectively, with the belief that the truth will eventually be revealed and appropriate actions will be taken by the respective authorities.
According to Thai News Agency, Chaiyachanok addressed the media concerning the Election Commission's (EC) investigation into three more cases of collusion during the Senate elections, which allegedly involve Senators from the "Orange Party" and the People's Party. Despite the gravity of the allegations, Chaiyachanok maintained a stance of not having any specific expectations, reiterating his trust in the system's ability to uncover the truth.
When queried about the People's Party and iLaw's continued disclosure of information linked to the Bhumjaithai Party, Chaiyachanok described it as normal for a leading and stable government party to become a target. He recognized it as the People's Party's right to scrutinize and refrained from further commenting on the matter.
Regarding the possibility of filing a countersuit, Chaiyachanok stated that he would first consult with his legal team, though he personally preferred not to pursue legal action. He expressed concern that inaction might lead to perceptions of being taken advantage of, underscoring the need to deliberate with his legal advisors before making a decision.
In response to questions about a potential conspiracy to undermine the Bhumjaithai Party, Chaiyachanok suggested that the situation was evidently a complex, multi-faceted issue. He expressed confidence that the party's actions were in compliance with regulations and laws, dismissing worries about the allegations.
Chaiyachanok also mentioned that he had not yet spoken with Newin Chidchob, president of Buriram United Football Club and his father, nor with the Prime Minister about the matter. He remained unfazed by the situation, pointing to the Election Commission's unanimous decision as something he felt was routine since he was not involved in the collusion. He highlighted that both he and the Prime Minister had proactively ensured Bhumjaithai Party members' non-involvement from the onset of the Senate selection process.
Finally, when asked about referring the matter to the Supreme Court due to public doubts, Chaiyachanok refrained from offering a personal opinion, expressing confidence in the existing procedural framework to address the situation appropriately.
