Bangkok: The Prime Minister is discussing with the Police Commission the possibility of combining positions and adjusting rank independently for investigators. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul chaired a meeting of the National Police Policy Committee and the Police Civil Service Commission to consider designating investigative positions as "combined positions" with self-leveling capabilities. The meeting also established criteria for evaluating knowledge and abilities for promotion under the National Police Act of 2022.
According to Thai News Agency, the meeting was held at the Sriyanon Room, 2nd floor, Building 1, Royal Thai Police Headquarters, where Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul chaired the first meeting of the National Police Policy Committee for 2026, prior to the second meeting of the Police Civil Service Commission for 2026. The key agenda item is to designate investigative police officer positions as "combined positions" that can have their own level adjustments to align with their duties and specialized expertise. This also includes establishing criteria and methods for evaluating knowledge, skills, and experience for promotion under the National Police Act B.E. 2565 (2022).
Reporters noted that upon the Prime Minister's arrival at the Royal Thai Police headquarters, he was welcomed by Police General Kittirat Panpetch, the Commissioner General of the Royal Thai Police, along with deputy commissioners, the Inspector General of the Royal Thai Police, and other high-ranking officers. Meanwhile, reporters inquired about the explosion at the ammunition depot of Border Patrol Police Division 21 in Cheniang Subdistrict, Mueang District, Surin Province. The Prime Minister nodded before directing the spokesperson of the Royal Thai Police to provide details on the matter.
This consideration of restructuring investigative positions is being watched closely as another important step in police reform, focusing on career advancement and improving the efficiency of investigative processes to be fairer and more transparent.
