Prime Minister Arrives in Kazan for Special ASEAN-Russia Summit


Kazan: The Prime Minister and his delegation have arrived in Kazan, Russia, to attend the Special ASEAN-Russia Summit.



According to Thai News Agency, the Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs, Anutin Charnvirakul, accompanied by his delegation, reached Kazan to participate in the summit from June 16-19, marking the 35th anniversary of ASEAN-Russia relations. They were greeted by high-ranking representatives from the Russian Federation and the Royal Thai Embassy in Moscow.



Mr. Bogdashev Igor Viktorovich, Director-General of the Protocol Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, along with Mr. Rustam Minnikhanov, Head of State of the Republic of Tatarstan, and other officials, extended a warm welcome to the Prime Minister and his wife. The welcoming ceremony included the traditional Russian custom of presenting bread, symbolizing friendship and goodwill between Thailand and Russia.



Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, Spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, highlighted the summit as a crucial platform for shaping future cooperation between ASEAN and Russia. The meeting is structured in two parts: a plenary session focusing on international and regional cooperation, and a working lunch to discuss leveraging the potential of ASEAN and the Eurasian regions. Representatives from organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Eurasian Economic Union are also in attendance.



Today, the Prime Minister is set to attend the ASEAN-Russia Business Forum, followed by a Gala Dinner and cultural performance. These events precede the main summit activities scheduled for the following day.



On June 18, the Prime Minister will participate in a group photo ceremony and deliver a statement on cooperation and future ASEAN-Russia relations. He will also co-approve four outcome documents and engage in discussions with ASEAN leaders and Russian representatives on economic connectivity and new opportunities in trade, investment, and technology.



The Prime Minister is expected to hold bilateral talks with the President of the Russian Federation to explore avenues for enhancing economic cooperation between Thailand and Russia. The discussions aim to create economic opportunities and improve the quality of life for Thai citizens.



The Prime Minister and his delegation will conclude their official duties and return to Thailand on June 19, 2026.
