Phatthalung: The Commissioner General of Police has tasked Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong with overseeing the investigation into allegations against a police sergeant involved in luring individuals into illegal gambling activities. This development follows concerns about the misconduct of police officers under the Provincial Police Region 9's jurisdiction.
According to Thai News Agency, Police General Kittirat Phanphet, the Commissioner General of the Royal Thai Police, and Police General Itthipol Achariyapradit, Inspector General of the Royal Thai Police, have dispatched Police Lieutenant General Trairong Phiwphan to hold meetings and assess the situation. The allegations involve a police sergeant who reportedly enticed a mentally disabled person to participate in dice gambling in Khuhasawan Subdistrict, Mueang Phatthalung District, on April 27, 2026. The meeting, held at Mueang Phatthalung Police Station, included participation from Police Lieutenant General Archan Chansiri and other key officials.
Investigators at Mueang Phatthalung Police Station have formally registered the complaint as a criminal case, pressing charges of "jointly engaging in illegal gambling" and "fraud." The investigative team is in the process of gathering evidence to ensure a fair and impartial conclusion to the investigation. A committee led by Pol. Col. Chatdanai Sentrang has been established to address serious disciplinary violations and to enforce legal procedures.
In light of the serious disciplinary accusations and criminal charges, the accused police sergeant has been suspended from duty effective May 1, 2026, to prevent any obstruction or damage to the investigation. Pol. Gen. Trairong reassured the victims' families of the Royal Thai Police's commitment to expedite the investigation and deliver justice to all involved parties, with no protection for any officers found guilty of misconduct.
Additionally, Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong visited Police Sergeant Somporn Ketdaeng, who was injured while subduing a deranged individual on April 28, 2026. He provided support and encouragement to Sgt. Ketdaeng, who is recuperating at Phatthalung Hospital, ensuring that he receives full welfare benefits as directed by the Commissioner General of Police.
