Police Inspector General Pushes Forward Suppression of Call Center Gangs

Bangkok: The National Police Inspector General led a significant meeting with various agencies to advance the crackdown on call center gangs in all dimensions. Pol. Gen. Thatchai Pitaneelabutr, Inspector-General of the Royal Thai Police and Director of the Anti-Human Trafficking Center, chaired the 2/2568 meeting aimed at driving the suppression of call center gangs and human trafficking networks. This meeting included representatives from numerous agencies, such as the Royal Thai Police, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, and several others, including international bodies like the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The meeting took place at the Sriyanon Room, Royal Thai Police Headquarters, and was also conducted via video conference.

According to Thai News Agency, the meeting focused on establishing task force groups and guidelines for implementation in areas such as victim assistance, prevention, and investigation. The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security will lead the efforts in victim assistance and protection, while the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society will spearhead prevention measures. The Royal Thai Police will focus on investigation and prosecution efforts. The discussions aimed to create measures for tangible results in suppressing these criminal activities as quickly as possible.

Pol. Gen. Thatchai emphasized the need for urgent action against call center gangs, highlighting the importance of focusing efforts domestically to prevent these gangs from establishing bases in Thailand. He underscored the necessity for closer cooperation between relevant agencies, both domestically and internationally, to effectively combat online crimes perpetrated by call center gangs. The UNODC mechanism was identified as a key tool in driving and resolving these issues.

Looking ahead, the Royal Thai Police will host the International Police Conference in late July 2025, with the main agenda being the suppression of call center gang crimes. This conference will serve as a platform for official discussions with other countries to collaboratively tackle the issue and facilitate information exchange, reaffirming a commitment to proactively and continuously prevent and suppress call center gang crimes.
