Police Association Honors Officers for Combating Nominee Schemes and Transnational Crime

Bangkok: The Police Association recently held a ceremony to present plaques and certificates of merit to 38 officers from 10 agencies who have worked to combat nominee schemes, scammers, transnational crime, and money laundering. The ceremony underscored the successful integration of cross-agency operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks with both domestic and international connections.

According to Thai News Agency, the honored recipients included agencies such as the Cyber Crime Suppression Center of the Royal Thai Police, the Cyber Crime Suppression Centers of Provincial Police Regions 1 and 9, and others like the Immigration Bureau and the Department of Special Investigation. The awards were designed to recognize and encourage officials who have demonstrated honesty, dedication, and efficiency in their duties, thereby enhancing the integrity of Thailand's justice system.

Achievements in combating nominee schemes were highlighted, including the suppression of Thai nationals used to hold shares for foreigners to illegally acquire land or businesses. Operations such as "NOMINEE SWEEP" in places like Phuket and Chiang Mai were part of these efforts, along with legal actions under the Foreign Business Act.

In the realm of cybercrime and money laundering, significant strides were made against networks like Style Cycle. Authorities have arrested suspects, seized assets worth over 20 billion baht, and coordinated with the Anti-Money Laundering Office to ensure the return of assets to victims.

The "Lightning Strike" operation was a key highlight, focusing on horse racing accounts and targeting 513 locations. This was part of broader actions against transnational organized crime networks, including the Prince Group. Other operations, such as "The Purge," tackled online gambling, resulting in the seizure of digital assets worth over 84 million baht and the shutdown of illegal online systems.

The Department of Special Investigation has been instrumental in curbing illegal foreign business activities, while the Anti-Money Laundering Office has been pivotal in asset tracking and recovery. These efforts underscore the importance of multi-agency collaboration in combating evolving criminal threats, fostering public trust and safety.
