Lopburi: A pickup truck crashed into a barrier early this morning on the Lopburi - Tha Wung road, resulting in the deaths of three individuals. According to Thai News Agency, the accident occurred in Bang Khu Subdistrict, Tha Wung District, when a vehicle with a Chainat license plate collided with a concrete barrier in the middle of the road. The truck overturned on its left side and became lodged against the median, trapping three people inside.
The victims included two women, Mrs. Somkhuan, 69, and Miss Phatthida Phuangsom????, 19, both from Nakhon Sawan Province, who were pronounced dead at the scene. The male driver, Mr. Wanchai Saoyai, 50, was initially found conscious and was taken to Tha Wung Hospital by rescue workers. However, the hospital reported at 9:45 AM that he had also succumbed to his injuries, bringing the total fatalities to three.
An inspection of the scene showed severe damage to the pickup truck, with fragments of the front beam and undercarriage scattered across the road. Engine parts and spilled oil were also found at the site. Authorities suspect the cause of the crash could be unfamiliarity with the road or the driver falling asleep at the wheel.
Local police documented the scene for further investigation and have sent the bodies to Tha Wung Hospital, awaiting contact with the victims' relatives for funeral arrangements. Nearby residents reported hearing a loud noise from the street and discovered the overturned vehicle on the median. They called out to the occupants, receiving a response only from the driver, and immediately contacted police and rescue services.
This tragic incident marks the ninth accident at this particular location, which residents describe as a blind spot with inadequate warning signs. They have called for immediate action from authorities to investigate and address the hazardous conditions to prevent future accidents.
