Phuket’s Tourism Scene Remains Vibrant Despite Weather Incident

Phuket: The atmosphere in Phuket province has remained lively despite a recent incident involving strong winds that caused anxiety among both business operators and tourists. Although a gust of wind swept tourists from their umbrellas into the sea, the tourism scene continues to thrive.

According to Thai News Agency, popular beaches such as Kata, Karon, and Patong are still bustling with foreign tourists engaging in activities like swimming, jet skiing, and surfing. The incident, which involved a tourist and a service staff member being dragged into the sea near Kata Beach during a parasailing activity, resulted in injuries due to the sudden wind. Fortunately, both individuals are now safe.

The operator at Kata Beach has suspended its umbrella towing services for the day following the incident. Witnesses reported that the accident occurred as tourists were being brought back to shore when unexpected rain and a strong wind hit, damaging the towing boat and causing it to take on water. Such weather conditions are uncommon in Phuket and were described as an act of God.

Meanwhile, parasailing services at other beaches, such as Karon and Patong, are operating normally. Although there was rain in the morning, the wind conditions are not as severe as those experienced yesterday. Past incidents in Phuket involved equipment instability leading to injuries, but this is the first instance attributed to sudden gusts of wind.
