Chiang mai: Unofficial election results in Chiang Mai have revealed a sweeping defeat for the Pheu Thai party across all districts, including its traditional strongholds, indicating a decline in the influence of the Shinawatra family. The People's Party managed to secure only 6 seats in urban and suburban areas, down from 7 seats previously. Meanwhile, the Kla Tham Party emerged as a surprising contender, capturing 4 seats in the mountainous and border regions.
According to Thai News Agency, efforts are currently underway at the Chiang Mai Provincial Election Commission office to finalize the official vote count. Once completed, these results will be displayed on a large board in front of the Chiang Mai Election Commission office for public viewing. Election Commission officials noted that the complete details will be updated and displayed this afternoon. Additionally, the completed vote count can be tracked on the central Election Commission's online platform.
Unofficial results from the Election Commission in Chiang Mai, covering all 25 districts and 10 constituencies, show significant political changes. Following extensive work, election officials have returned the ballot boxes and materials to the Chiang Mai City District Office and other constituencies. Verification of ballots against voter numbers is currently underway, with only a small portion of polling stations in remote areas, approximately 6% of the 2,789 stations, remaining to be counted. The unofficial results indicate a pivotal shift, as the Pheu Thai Party failed to retain any seats in Chiang Mai, a critical stronghold. The People's Party captured a majority in urban and surrounding districts, winning 6 seats in total. Conversely, the Kla Tham Party gained traction, winning 4 seats in the northern and southern zones of the province.
According to unofficial election results for 2026 from the central Election Commission's online channel, vote counting in Chiang Mai is reportedly 94.81% complete. Out of 1,348,261 eligible voters, 949,962 people participated in the constituency-based parliamentary elections, marking a turnout of 70.46%. There were 857,926 valid ballots, 43,911 invalid ballots, and 48,125 blank ballots.
In the party-list system vote count, there were 871,945 valid ballots, 45,158 invalid ballots, and 34,958 ballots marked "number of candidates." The People's Party led the results, followed by Pheu Thai Party and Bhumjaithai Party.
Regarding the referendum vote count, 978,769 individuals cast their votes, representing 72.59 percent. There were 953,478 valid ballots and 25,291 invalid ballots.
