Chonburi: Patthapong Thongsuk staged a remarkable comeback to secure the third gold medal for the Thai weightlifting team at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games. Despite the pressure of competing in his first SEA Games against more experienced athletes, Thongsuk's performance exceeded his expectations.

On the second day of competition, Thongsuk competed in the men's 65 kg category alongside six other athletes.
Thongsuk faced challenges in the snatch, failing his initial attempt at 130 kg but successfully lifting the same weight on subsequent attempts and ultimately managing 134 kg to finish third. In the clean and jerk, he delivered an impressive performance, lifting 168, 171, and 173 kg, culminating in a total of 307 kg to secure the gold medal for Thailand.
The silver medal was awarded to Malaysia's Muhammad Aznil Bidin, who lifted a total of 306 kg with 133 kg in snatch and 173 kg in clean and jerk. Eco Yuli Irawan clinched the bronze with a total of 304 kg, comprising 138 kg in snatch and 166 kg in clean and jerk.
Following the competition, Thongsuk expressed that he felt significant pressure due to his youth and lack of experience in such high-level competitions. He was relieved and pleased with his performance and is now setting his sights on training for future participation in the Asian Games.
