Pattaya: The arrival of over 5,000 American soldiers in Pattaya City, Chonburi, is anticipated to generate around 15 million baht in revenue, as local businesses prepare to accommodate the influx of visitors. Hotel bookings have surged, and the presence of US military personnel is expected to boost economic activity in the area.
According to Thai News Agency, Pattaya's tourism sector is preparing to welcome the US military personnel who will disembark at Laem Chabang, Chonburi, from September 2nd to 6th for a period of rest and relaxation. This influx of visitors is expected to benefit restaurants, spas, and shopping malls across Pattaya. Hotel operators have expressed optimism that the soldiers' presence will spread economic benefits throughout the city, including at popular destinations such as the Hard Rock Hotel Pattaya.
Ms. Thanyarat Mahithiseth, Director of Marketing Communications at Hard Rock Hotel Pattaya, explained that the number of guests varies, depending on the size of the vessel and the disembarkation duration. Accommodation choices will be based on individual needs and budgets, with soldiers staying in various hotels and guesthouses or returning to their ships.
Hotel bookings are on the rise, although the overall situation remains similar to previous visits. Hard Rock Hotel Pattaya serves as a key point for personnel traveling to central Pattaya before dispersing to various accommodations and locations.
Spending patterns from previous visits indicate that soldiers tend to spend on food and beverages initially, followed by shopping at local stores, spas, massage parlors, tourist attractions, and recreational activities. This spending pattern ensures that the financial impact extends beyond the hotel industry, benefiting multiple service sectors in Pattaya.
Ms. Thanyarat highlighted that Pattaya remains a favored destination for US military personnel due to its diverse tourism offerings, which cater to American visitors' preferences in dining, shopping, and services.
Pattaya City estimates that each soldier will spend between 1,000 and 3,000 baht, resulting in a total expenditure of approximately 5 to 15 million baht for the workforce of 5,000 personnel.
Reporters observed preparations around Pattaya Soi 6, a popular entertainment area near Pattaya Beach, where business owners were busy readying their establishments for the expected influx of tourists. Safety measures, including signs prohibiting firearms, have been implemented to ensure a safe environment for visitors.
Certain areas, such as Soi 6, Soi 6/1, Soi 7, cannabis shops, pharmacies, and specific water activities, have been designated as off-limits to military personnel. However, they are allowed access to Walking Street Pattaya with time restrictions, requiring departure by 2:00 AM.
Despite restrictions on US personnel entering the Soi 6 area, bar owners remain optimistic, preparing for normal operations as they continue to attract other tourists.
