One Dead, Three Injured in Suphan Buri Fireworks Factory Blast

Suphan buri: A powerful explosion ripped through a fireworks factory in central Thailand on Friday morning, leaving one person dead and three others injured, local authorities said.

According to Thai News Agency, the blast occurred at approximately 7:52 a.m. in the Don Chedi district of Suphan Buri province. The force of the explosion completely leveled a single-story production facility and damaged two adjacent buildings.

Police identified the deceased as Saneh, 58. Three other workers sustained injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Five dogs at the site were also killed in the incident.

The factory owner, who was not present at the time of the blast, told reporters that the victims were mixing gunpowder to prepare for production when the explosion occurred. "I am deeply saddened by what happened and am prepared to compensate the families of the deceased and the injured," the owner said.

One surviving worker described the chaotic scene, stating he was working at a distance when the blast occurred. "I was in total shock and dove for cover by a nearby canal," he said.

Suphan Buri Governor Nattapong Sa-nguanchit visited the site with emergency officials to oversee the investigation. Preliminary checks revealed that while the factory had been legally licensed, its permit expired on Jan. 26, 2026, and was currently in the process of renewal.

Forensic teams have cordoned off the area, which has been declared a danger zone, as they work to determine the exact cause of the ignition. Thailand has a history of industrial accidents involving fireworks factories, often attributed to lax safety standards or improper storage of volatile materials during the peak production season.
