Northern Thailand Braces for Temperature Drop Amid Strong Winds

Bangkok: Northern Thailand will experience a temperature drop of 1-3 degrees Celsius accompanied by strong winds. The Meteorological Department reports that temperatures in upper Thailand will decrease with the North and Northeast regions facing cool to cold weather. The Central region, including Bangkok and its surrounding areas, along with the East and upper South, will see cool mornings.

According to Thai News Agency, the temperature decline over the next 24 hours is attributed to a moderate to fairly strong high-pressure system or cold air mass from China. This system has spread over northern Vietnam and northern Laos and is expected to extend over upper Thailand and the South China Sea. Residents are advised to take care of their health due to colder weather and exercise caution against fire hazards due to dry and windy conditions.

In the lower southern region, scattered thunderstorms are anticipated as the weak northeast monsoon strengthens over the Gulf of Thailand, the southern region, and the Andaman Sea. Wave conditions are becoming stronger, with waves in the lower Gulf of Thailand reaching about 2 meters and waves in the upper Gulf of Thailand and offshore the Andaman Sea ranging from 1-2 meters. In areas experiencing thunderstorms, waves may exceed 2 meters, prompting mariners to exercise caution and avoid sailing in affected areas.

The accumulation of particulate matter in upper Thailand remains moderate to high due to poor air ventilation. The weather forecast for Thailand indicates varying conditions across regions, with cool to cold weather expected in the North, Northeast, and Central regions. The East and upper South will experience cool mornings, while the southern regions face a chance of thunderstorms, particularly in provinces such as Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, and Krabi. In Bangkok and surrounding areas, cool morning weather with strong winds is forecasted.
