Nonthaburi: The Nonthaburi Provincial Administrative Organization (PAO) is fostering environmentally conscious citizens, launching the "Green School Year 7" initiative to revolutionize the environment through youth power. The project showcases the potential for comprehensive wastewater management, aiming for a Net Zero mission for the sustainability of Thailand and the world.
According to Thai News Agency, the Nonthaburi PAO held a major press conference to launch the 7th annual "Green and Clean School" environmental education program, under the "Beautiful Canals, Clean Water" project. This initiative aims to elevate environmental management from pollution treatment to fostering environmentally conscious citizens, focusing on youth participation in sustainably addressing global warming. The event also revealed progress on major investments in environmental infrastructure in critical areas.
Ms. Isaya Satharasantikul, Deputy Chairperson of the Nonthaburi PAO, stated that the organization prioritizes systematically addressing environmental problems. A key mission is to build a strong sanitation foundation. Most recently, the organization has proceeded with the construction of a wastewater collection and treatment system (Critical Zone 1), covering four municipalities: Sri Muang, Bang Krang, Bang Len, and Bang Si Thong. This system utilizes underground pipe jacking techniques to minimize impact on the public and will have the capacity to treat up to 10,000 cubic meters of wastewater per day. It is expected to be operational in 2028, restoring water quality in major canals like Khlong Om Non and Khlong Bang Krong to a clean state.
Ms. Satharasantikul emphasized that infrastructure alone cannot solve issues sustainably without public participation. Therefore, the PAO has continued its Green and Clean School project for the seventh consecutive year, believing that schools are the best place to instill a 'green DNA' in young people. This year, the Nonthaburi PAO has set concrete measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, aiming for a 12.21% reduction by 2030 through six key mechanisms, including increasing green spaces, integrated waste management, and building strong youth networks.
Ms. Chalanat Kidjaidiew, Director of the Natural Resources and Environment Division of the Nonthaburi PAO, stated that they received cooperation from many sectors, including the Regional Education Office and the Nonthaburi Association of Private Educational Administration Professionals. An environmental education competition was held with over 2,000 students participating, and 20 model schools were selected to establish new standards for educational institutions in the province.
Ms. Thanawan Pramuansilpchai, President of the Nonthaburi Private Educational Administration Professionals Association, added that an exhibition on February 7-8 will showcase work and ideas from over 60 schools across the province under the theme "Collaborative Thinking, Collaborative Action, Collaborative Adaptation Towards the Sustainability of Thailand and Our World."
The Nonthaburi PAO invites the public, youth, and interested individuals to participate in the 'Green and Clean: Green School Year 7' event under the 'Beautiful Canals, Clean Water' project. Witness the combined efforts of over 60 educational institutions from across Nonthaburi province, sharing ideas under the concept of 'Collaborative Thinking, Collaborative Action, Collaborative Change towards the Sustainability of Thailand and the World.'
Key activities within the event include a Royal Commemorative Exhibition honoring the contributions of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn and His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej to natural resource conservation, Outstanding Youth Innovation showcasing eco-friendly inventions, insights into the Path to Net Zero, and a Creative Stage featuring performances and exhibition booths.
