Bangkok: Nearly 90% of the 2026 budget has been disbursed, with accelerated spending in the final month. The Comptroller General's Department is intensifying efforts for budget injections in the final month and advises preparation for procurement in fiscal year 2027 in advance.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Patricia Mongkolvanich, Director-General of the Comptroller General's Department, reported that from the beginning of the 2026 fiscal year until August 31, 2026, a total of 3,388,941 million baht has been disbursed, representing 89.64 percent of the total budget of 3,780,600 million baht. Specifically, current expenditures have seen a disbursement of 2,871,066 million baht, or 96.41 percent of the allocated 2,977,911 million baht, while capital expenditures have accounted for 517,875 million baht, equating to 64.52 percent of the 802,689 million baht allocated.
Regarding funds carried over from fiscal year 2025, 258,493 million baht has been disbursed, marking 80.61 percent of the 320,689 million baht allocated. With only one month left for incurring obligations and disbursing funds for fiscal year 2026, the department urges government agencies to expedite procurement for ongoing projects, hasten the acceptance of completed work by contractors, and finalize disbursements by September 30, 2026. Furthermore, the disbursement of funds carried over from fiscal year 2025 must be completed promptly to avoid budget forfeiture.
For surplus funds from completed projects, agencies needing to use these funds for insufficiently funded projects/items can reallocate them to other essential projects/items to ensure cost-effectiveness and efficiency in budget spending.
In preparation for the fiscal year 2027 budget, government agencies are encouraged to prepare for procurement by drafting annual procurement plans and selecting contractors in advance. Once the fiscal year 2027 budget act is enacted and agencies receive allocations from the Budget Bureau, contract signing can proceed.
