Naga Raj: The Musical Set to Take Stage with New Generation of Actors

Bangkok: Peter Pan, Kate, Bew, and Chaba share their feelings about Nakarat The Musical, marking a new chapter in their acting careers.

According to Thai News Agency, “Naga Raj: The Musical” is a grand epic of love and faith, supported by the Contemporary Art Promotion Fund, Office of Contemporary Art and Culture, Ministry of Culture, and the Phiwat Performing Arts Group. This year, a fresh generation of actors will portray the legend of the Naga of the Eastern River Basin, creating a groundbreaking theatrical phenomenon.

Peter Pan, Tatsaphol Wiwitwat, who plays Phaya Phetphatthanakarat, expressed his happiness upon being contacted for the stage musical. He saw it as a challenge he wanted to explore, with relatable story elements making it easy to convey emotions. However, the focus on the belief in the Naga King required him to delve deeply into that faith, providing a new perspective and an opportunity to develop his acting skills further.

Marilyn Kate Gardner, portraying Queen Anyarinthasini Devi, found the beliefs about the Naga to be a novel aspect in her career. Performing in “Naga Raj: The Musical” marked her first in-depth research into the history and origins of the Naga. Kate aims to understand and embody her character accurately, planning to visit a shrine for blessings to ensure her performance is both appropriate and heartfelt.

Bew Chakraphan Phutta, who plays Phaya Vayujakr, described his role as a significant acting challenge. As his first stage play, Bew had to open his mind to the character, employing imagination and creativity to deliver the role effectively in the fantasy genre.

Chaba Nattamanee Pichyasuthisil, taking on the role of Queen Neela Ruchi, has a profound belief in the Naga serpent. With a background in mysticism and her Miss Grand Udon Thani crown featuring a Naga motif, Chaba found the story of Phra Phetphatthanakarat intriguing. Her character’s themes of jealousy and love triangles resonate with real-life lessons about contentment and morality.

The cast has been rehearsing diligently, with newly composed songs integral to “Naga Raj: The Musical.” The songs, including “Deva Banchaa,” “Santi Patinya,” and others, feature lyrics by Napadol Kampanthong and music by Thanat Thanyahan, each holding significant meaning for the characters. Audiences are invited to experience this journey of love and faith from June 18-21 at the M Theatre.
