NACC and PDRC Object to Kittirat’s Nomination as Bank of Thailand Chairman.

Bangkok: The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has officially submitted a letter opposing the appointment of Kittirat Na Ranong as the chairman of the Bank of Thailand board. This objection was further echoed by the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), who staged a demonstration at Government House to present their concerns to Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra. According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Pichit Chaiyamongkol, leader of the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD), delivered a formal objection through Mr. Somkid Chuekong, the Deputy Secretary-General to the Prime Minister for Political Affairs. The letter was directed to Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra and the Cabinet, urging them to reconsider the nomination of Mr. Kittirat. The nomination is scheduled to be addressed in an upcoming Cabinet meeting. Mr. Pichit expressed concerns regarding Mr. Kittirat's political history, highlighting that he recently served as an advisor to the Prime Minister during Mr. Settha Thavisin's a dministration, a role considered akin to that of a political official. He argued that the nomination could lead to a legal conflict, as the regulations governing political office holders require broader interpretation under the Council of State's guidance. Mr. Pichit suggested that if the Cabinet approves the nomination, it could potentially face legal challenges and indicated plans to escalate the matter to the Ombudsman and possibly to the Constitutional Court. In response, Mr. Somkid assured that all perspectives would be taken into account and that the objections would be presented to both the Cabinet and the Prime Minister for further deliberation.
