The Ministry of Energy, together with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and network partners, are implementing 7 measures to reduce PM2.5 and declaring dust control zones prohibiting trucks from entering 22 inner Bangkok areas. They are launching campaigns and discounts to encourage people to bring their vehicles in for inspection, hoping to reduce PM2.5 through the "This Car Reduces Dust" project. Mr. Prasert Sinsukprasert, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, along with the Director of the Air and Noise Quality Management Division, Pollution Control Department, and the Land Transport Federation of Thailand jointly announced cooperation to reduce PM2.5 dust particles after the meeting to prepare measures to prevent and solve the problem of small dust particles in the Bangkok area in 2025. Mr. Prasert said that the Ministry of Energy attaches importance to and cares about the PM2.5 dust problem, which is a problem that occurs during the winter se ason from the end of the year to the beginning of the year. Therefore, it has coordinated with oil companies to launch various privilege campaigns where people can bring their cars in for free inspections, including discounts for changing engine oil, changing air filters, cleaning air conditioners, and refilling air conditioner fluid, etc. When people bring their cars in for inspections, it is an important part of solving the PM2.5 dust problem. In addition, it allows the engine to work at full efficiency and extend its service life. The measures to prevent and solve the PM2.5 dust problem through the 'This Car Reduces Dust' project are ongoing operations from last year, with Bangkok as the main host and related agencies cooperating, including the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Federation of Thai Industries, and automotive manufacturers, working together to campaign for people to understand the problem and participate in solving it. From data collected last year, the 'This Car Reduces Dust ' project from December 18, 2023 to February 29, 2024, found that more than 265,000 cars came in for service in the Bangkok area. This reflects that the integration of cooperation in reducing the amount of PM2.5 dust particles from vehicles has achieved its objectives and received a positive response from the public, which has increased significantly from previous years. 'As for the Ministry of Energy, we are pleased to be a part of solving the PM2.5 dust problem. The Ministry of Energy has coordinated to request cooperation from oil traders under Section 7 to create campaigns and discounts to encourage people to bring their cars in for inspection, maintenance, and change air filters and engine oil, which is one mechanism to reduce the amount of PM2.5 dust particles through the 'This car reduces dust' project. Currently, we are collecting information on campaign details and discounts from gas stations and car service centers. People can follow the details of discounts and campaigns via the website and Facebo ok of the Ministry of Energy soon. Therefore, we would like to invite people to bring their cars in for inspection and join in solving the PM2.5 dust problem together,' said Mr. Prasert. -517-Thai News Agency Source: Thai News Agency
