Bueng kan: The Mekong River has overflowed, flooding landmark roads and affecting five districts. Water levels in the Mekong River flowing through Bueng Kan province have been rising continuously after more than two weeks of rain. Massive amounts of water from upstream provinces like Loei and Nong Khai, as well as tributaries and accumulated water from the Phu Khao Kwai mountain range in neighboring Laos, are flowing down streams and the main rivers of Laos, converging with the Mekong River and causing its water level to rise.
According to Thai News Agency, this morning, the water level at Ban Phan Lam monitoring station in Mueang Bueng Kan district was measured at 12 meters, an increase of 65 centimeters from yesterday. The rising water level has caused the Mekong River to overflow its banks, flooding the landmark riverside road. Bueng Kan municipal officials have erected barricades to warn people to avoid the road. Currently, residents in five districts are affected.
