Mae Klong River Water Levels Expected to Rise by 1 Meter; Government Issues Warnings

Bangkok:According to Thai News Agency, the government has warned residents in Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, and Samut Songkhram provinces to prepare for a rise in water levels by about 1 meter due to expected water releases from the Srinakarin and Vajiralongkorn dams. These releases could contribute to increased water volumes in the Mae Klong River over the next three days. Residents are urged to move their belongings to higher ground and follow provincial warnings closely.

The Khlong Ra-ok Dam, which has been the subject of social media rumors about a break, has been inspected and confirmed to be intact, with repairs made to its eroded spillway. In Bangkok and surrounding areas, the government is accelerating water drainage, with expectations that the situation will improve within 2-3 days. Public transportation is set to operate at full capacity tomorrow, although certain roads remain impassable for small vehicles due to water levels exceeding 30 centimeters.

In eastern Thailand, close monitoring is required in Prachinburi Province, particularly in Kabin Buri District, which recently experienced peak flood levels. Mueang Prachinburi District residents should prepare for potential overflows, while Rayong Province expects heavy rainfall in Klaeng District, necessitating vigilance as water spills from the Prasae Dam spillway.

The government is coordinating with relevant agencies to ensure public safety and expedite aid delivery. Efforts include deploying additional drainage pumps, establishing medical facilities, and developing long-term flood prevention plans. Meanwhile, compensation assessments and funding requests are underway in affected areas, with the government emphasizing prompt assistance delivery. Traffic in Bangkok is expected to improve as rainfall subsides, and military personnel are assisting with logistical challenges at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
