Livestock Department Sets Up War Room to Investigate Cause of Death of Over 200 Buffaloes.

Chiang Rai: Chiang Rai Provincial Livestock Office led officers to Wiang Nong Lom to set up a war room to find the cause of over 245 buffaloes becoming sick and dying since September. According to Thai News Agency, the Chiang Rai Provincial Livestock Office initiated this action following reports of more than 245 buffaloes raised by villagers falling ill and dying. The affected area, Wiang Nong Lom, is a public grassland and water source that spans the borders of Mae Chan and Chiang Saen districts. Although no specific disease outbreak has been identified, the buffaloes were previously found to be suffering from anemia, liver failure, and stomach parasites. It is believed these conditions may have been exacerbated by a lack of food and insects due to recent drought and flooding. In response, officials have sprayed disinfectant at the buffalo camp and collected blood samples from the buffaloes for further testing. The officials have pledged to remain in Wiang Nong Lom to assist farmers until the situation st abilizes. Additionally, Mr. Itthi Sirilathayakorn, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, is scheduled to visit the area tomorrow morning to assess the situation. Wiang Nong Lom currently hosts approximately 3 buffalo camps, 51 farmers, and nearly 2,000 buffalo.
