Lawyer Updates on Nana-Way Case: Increased Damages Not Decisive

Bangkok: Lawyer Saiyud Phengbunchu provided an update on the ongoing legal case involving Nana Raibina and Way Prinya, emphasizing that the increased damages are not the deciding factor in the case. She also addressed inquiries about whether her clients have commenced repaying their debts.

According to Thai News Agency, Saiyud Phengbunchu, the personal lawyer for the accused, reported that the questioning phase has concluded, and she has prepared the legal defense statement. The next step involves awaiting a scheduled date from the police to present the case to the public prosecutor, though this date remains unspecified.

A significant point of interest is the reported increase in damages from 152 million baht to 170 million baht. Lawyer Saiyud clarified that the revised amount is not the critical element of the case. This figure was reported by investigators, likely reflecting adjustments made by victims based on their statements. The primary concern is determining the suspects' involvement in the alleged crime, the legal status of those filing the complaints as victims, and their potential involvement in any wrongdoing. These issues will guide the prosecutor's decision on charges, with the court ultimately delivering the final judgment.

Addressing whether any payments had been made to creditors, Saiyud expressed reluctance to disclose details, citing potential impacts on the case and other involved parties. He highlighted that discussing payments publicly could affect multiple victims, as it pertains to individual cases. Saiyud's responsibility is to navigate the legal process and safeguard his clients' rights. Although police indicated no payments had been made, he stressed that compensation does not equate to guilt and that legal proceedings take time. Even minor claims, such as those involving 100,000 baht, can lead to litigation. While compensation may influence court outcomes, the investigation must proceed, as complaints cannot simply be withdrawn.

When questioned about the sufficiency of Nana and Way's assets to cover their debts, Saiyud concluded the topic abruptly, stating, "That's enough. I won't answer."
