Tokyo: Sihasak Phuangketkaew, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, has revealed that Japanese investors are expressing concern over the ongoing situation at the Thai-Cambodian border, urging for clarification and inviting investment in emerging industrial sectors. These sectors include biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and medicine, with a focus on innovation and high technology.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Sihasak engaged in discussions with Japanese academics specializing in Southeast Asia and Thailand, along with representatives from the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren) and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), during his recent visit to Japan. He addressed the conflict between Thailand and Cambodia, highlighting its impact on investor confidence and noting the recent decline in Japanese investment, historically the largest in Thailand.
Mr. Sihasak emphasized the desire for Japanese cooperation in reducing carbon dioxide emissions, citing Japan's mechanisms that could aid in developing a carbon credit market in Thailand. He is advocating for support in Thailand's transition to a digital and green economy, underpinned by innovation. Additionally, he stressed the importance of Japan's role in developing human resources with skills that align with new technologies, particularly through technology transfer, to bolster new investment opportunities.
