Tokyo: Japan has lifted its tsunami warning after a 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck the northeastern region of the country. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) had initially issued a tsunami advisory following the seismic event, which occurred on Friday.
According to Thai News Agency, the JMA had initially estimated the earthquake's magnitude at 6.7. The earthquake struck at 11:44 a.m. Japan time, off the coast of Aomori Prefecture, with its epicenter at a depth of 20 kilometers. This event follows a much larger earthquake, measuring 7.5 magnitude, that impacted the same region late Monday.
In response to Monday's earthquake, the government issued a special advisory, urging residents from Hokkaido in the north to Chiba Prefecture east of Tokyo to remain vigilant for the potential of additional strong earthquakes over the next week.
