Bangkok: The new chairman of the Election Commission has acknowledged that the upcoming election could potentially be held on February 8, 2026. The Election Commission has affirmed its full readiness to organize the election, with a meeting scheduled next week to discuss and potentially set the election date.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Narong Klanwarin, the Chairman of the Election Commission, expressed confidence in their preparedness to hold the election following the Prime Minister's announcement of the dissolution of parliament. He noted that, in accordance with the law, the Election Commission is required to convene on Monday and Tuesday, December 15-16, to finalize the election date. Anticipating the dissolution of parliament, the Election Commission office had already taken preparatory steps, including the demarcation of electoral districts. Mr. Narong believes more concrete details will be available after the meetings on Monday and Tuesday. The Commission has prepared a comprehensive election timeline and is fully equipped to conduct the election, with February 8, 2026, as a possible date.
In response to concerns about potential obstacles posed by the situation on the Thai-Cambodian border, Mr. Narong assured that the Election Commission is continuously monitoring the situation and remains vigilant.
