Indonesia Probes Train Collision Near Jakarta Involving Railway Operator and Taxi Companies

Bekasi: Indonesia is accelerating its investigation into the train collision. Indonesia has expanded its investigation into a serious train collision near Jakarta, examining both the state-owned railway operator and taxi companies involved after the accident killed 15 people and injured many more in Bekasi district, West Java.

According to Thai News Agency, Transport Minister Dudi Purwakandi announced today that the death toll stands at 15 and 91 people were injured in the accident, which occurred late Monday night. The collision between a commuter train and a long-distance train in the Bekasi area, on the outskirts of Jakarta, resulted in significant damage to a women-only carriage.

Indonesia's state news agency Antara reported, citing Mr. Purwakandi, that the accident occurred after a taxi was parked blocking a railway crossing near Bekasi East Station, causing a commuter train to stop at the platform and subsequently be struck by a long-distance train.

The Minister of Transport confirmed that officials are working urgently to restore normal suburban train services by today.
