Bangkok: The Ministry of Transport has officially welcomed the inaugural flight on the Riyadh-Bangkok route, a move expected to significantly enhance the air connectivity between Thailand and the Middle East. Mr. Patarapong Pataraprasit, Deputy Minister of Transport, along with HE Mr. Abdulrahman Abdulaziz Alsuhaibani, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Thailand, attended the ceremony at Suvarnabhumi Airport's SAT1 Terminal. Mr. Patarapong expressed his honor and delight at this milestone, highlighting its alignment with Saudi Vision 2030, aimed at transforming Saudi Arabia into a global logistics and tourism hub.
According to Thai News Agency, the new route will facilitate easier access for passengers from Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries to experience Thailand's unique tourism, culture, and hospitality. The direct flight is anticipated not only to simplify travel but also to open up opportunities for business and investment in various sectors, including trade, industry, and health tourism. This collaboration is seen as more than a mere flight connection; it is a strategic partnership that will enhance bilateral relations and foster sustainable growth between Thailand and Saudi Arabia.
Currently, two airlines operate direct flights between Riyadh and Bangkok. Saudi Arabian Airlines offers 17 flights per week, with routes covering Jeddah-Bangkok, Riyadh-Bangkok, Jeddah-Phuket, and Riyadh-Phuket. Meanwhile, Riyadh Air has commenced direct flights on the Riyadh-Bangkok route with three weekly flights starting from September 2, 2026.
Mr. Patarapong concluded that Riyadh Air's entry will offer more travel options and boost flight frequency, benefiting the tourism and business travel markets. Thailand remains a favored destination for Saudi tourists, with hotspots such as Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya, Chiang Mai, and Krabi. The increased connectivity will also encourage Thai tourists to explore Saudi Arabia, fostering tourism spending, investment, and economic exchange, in line with the cooperative policies of both nations to enhance tourism and air transport collaboration.
