According to Thai News Agency, the 2nd Army Region disclosed that the IED was discovered in a military area under Cambodian control. This followed an investigation into an encroachment incident involving the establishment of a military base and the storage of weapons and equipment. The inspection revealed the IED was constructed using a TM-57 anti-tank mine, C-4 composition explosive, an electric detonator, wires, metal fragments, and other accessories, suggesting modifications for either directional detonation or remote activation.
The 2nd Army Region's analysis highlighted three critical points: the modification of standard military equipment into an IED, the intent to cause a violent explosion, and the possibility of a controlled or trap-like ignition system. These elements underscore the threat to the safety of Thai personnel and the potential for casualties among those entering the area.
