Nong Khai: Two young men involved in a hit-and-run incident took drastic measures to avoid capture, leading to a fatal explosion. The incident unfolded when the suspects, trying to evade police, pulled the pin on a bomb, resulting in one of their deaths. According to Thai News Agency, the chaos began when the Tha Bo Police Station received a report of a car accident at Ban Thewi Intersection involving a sedan and a pickup truck. The two men in the pickup truck fled the scene by hitching a ride on a passing sedan. The police closely pursued the suspects, who later switched to a three-wheeled motorcycle taxi towards Ban Phon Sa. The chase ended when one of the men entered an electrical appliance repair shop, where an explosion occurred shortly after. Upon investigation, officers discovered the body of a man aged between 35-40, severely injured by the blast. A bomb was found in his pocket, alongside a handgun and pocket knife. A hand grenade pin was also located nearby, indicating the cause of the explosion. T he shop owner, Mr. Sataporn, recounted the dramatic events, revealing how the suspects brandished guns before the explosion damaged his property, injuring him with shrapnel. Meanwhile, the second suspect attempted to flee by stealing a long-tail boat. After a tense hour-long standoff, he surrendered to the authorities. Identified as Thao Kham Sing, a 38-year-old from Pakse, Lao PDR, he was found with drug paraphernalia in his possession. Pol. Col. Phirat Udomphisutthikun, Commander of Nong Khai Provincial Police, suggested that drugs might have been involved, as a suspicious odor was detected from the pickup truck. The investigation continues to unravel the identities and motives of the suspects, as well as any potential connections to illegal activities. Authorities are examining evidence from the scene, including witness accounts and CCTV footage, to piece together the events leading to the tragic explosion.
