Kanchanaburi:The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy rainfall in western Thailand from October 4 to 7, with Kanchanaburi identified as a high-risk area. Rainfall in the region is anticipated to measure between 100 to 150 millimeters, as a cold air mass from China moves southward, interacting with warmer local air and pushing the rain band westward.
According to Thai News Agency, In addition to Kanchanaburi, Kabin Buri district in Prachinburi province and Phetchaburi province are also expected to experience significant rainfall during this period. The Meteorological Department's forecast indicates another cold air mass is likely to arrive on October 10, affecting Bangkok with more evenly distributed rainfall on October 14.
Prime Minister's spokesperson, Ekaphop Pienpises, highlighted that the heavy rainfall expected from October 4 to 7 signifies a change in the rainy season. He emphasized the need for vigilance in both northern and southern regions due to the risk of flash floods and landslides, with Ayutthaya preparing for increased water levels.
Data from satellites and ground observations show that water levels in central regions, particularly from Uthai Thani province downwards, have begun stabilizing and receding. However, water released from the Chao Phraya and Pa Sak Chonlasit Dams is contributing to rising water levels in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province, necessitating preparations for residents in low-lying areas.
The Prime Minister has instructed the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation to coordinate with provinces for effective communication and to ensure rapid assistance to affected areas. Meanwhile, in Bangkok, efforts are underway to manage water levels through canal drainage systems and pumping stations, with close monitoring required in various districts to address persistent flooding issues.
