Heavy Rain Expected in Thailand from October 13-16

Bangkok:The Joint Flood Situation Information Center has warned of expected heavy rain in Thailand from October 13-16. Although rainfall has decreased recently, an increase is anticipated in the western region.

According to Thai News Agency, Areas under close watch for significant rainfall include the western part of central Thailand Uthai Thani, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, and Phetchaburi. Bangkok is also expected to experience heavy rain, particularly from evening to night. In the southern part of the country, heavy rain is predicted to continue in certain areas throughout the period.

In response, the Royal Irrigation Department has modified its water management strategies for various river basins. Water discharge from the Chao Phraya Dam has been reduced to 1,900 cubic meters per second to lessen the impact on downstream regions from Chainat to Samut Prakan. Despite being overcapacity, the Kaeng Krachan Dam has also reduced its discharge to mitigate effects on Phetchaburi city. Additionally, high tides in the Bang Pakong River basin are hindering water drainage, prompting the Royal Thai Navy to deploy vessels to help counteract the tide.
