Udon Thani: An electric fan malfunction led to the tragic deaths of a grandfather and his young grandson in the Mueang District of Udon Thani Province. The incident occurred when Mr. Chalat, 52, and his grandson, 10-year-old Suthinan, were electrocuted while sleeping in a tent set up outside their home. According to Thai News Agency, the local rescue workers were called to Village 8, Nong Khon Kwang Subdistrict, where they found both Mr. Chalat and Suthinan unconscious with burns on their hands, lying next to a large, modified iron fan. Despite attempts to revive them with CPR for nearly 30 minutes, both succumbed to their injuries. Ms. Pranee, the wife of Mr. Chalat and grandmother of Suthinan, recounted the events leading to the tragedy. She explained that after dinner, her husband and grandson typically slept in the tent outside. Shortly after they settled in, she heard screams, followed by an eerie silence. Rushing out, she discovered both lying unresponsive, prompting a neighbor to call the authorities for help. Ms. Pranee noted that the fan had been used regularly without any prior issues. Local police have initiated an investigation, with the bodies being transferred to Udon Thani Hospital for autopsy and further examination. The authorities plan to interview witnesses to establish a clearer understanding of the events. If no objections are raised by the family regarding the cause of death, the bodies will be released for funeral rites.
