Bangkok: The government continues its efforts to upskill workers in the transportation and logistics sectors, aligning skills with market demands and ensuring immediate job placement after training. According to Thai News Agency, the initiative is generating a total income of over 47 million baht per year for the trained workforce.
Lieutenant Colonel Patthadarasmi Thongsalooykorn, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that the government is focusing on addressing labor issues directly and quickly through proactive policies that transform learning into real job creation. The Ministry of Labor has collaborated with three major associations in the transportation and logistics industry: the International Freight Forwarders Association, the Hazardous Materials Business Association, and the Thai Licensed Customs Brokers Association. This collaboration has led to the launch of a human resource development project to support the logistics industry and upgrade the skills of the modern workforce.
The program offers skills training for workers, lasting 120-240 hours, in specialized courses such as international freight transport, cross-border handling of hazardous goods in the Mekong sub-region, and import-export brokerage. To date, over 355 people have completed the training.
Captain Patthadarasmi stated that those who complete the skills training from this project can find employment immediately upon graduation. Over 147 private companies that are members of the Logistics Association have hired these trainees, resulting in a total income of up to 3.99 million baht per month, or over 47 million baht per year. This represents a transformation of workforce skills development budgets into real income for the workers.
The deputy spokesperson for the Prime Minister added that, based on the clearly measured results, the government is preparing to expand the program in the 2027 fiscal year, aiming to train an additional 600 highly skilled workers in logistics and transportation business. This will create a new generation of workforce ready to work immediately, support the country's economic competitiveness, and address unemployment in a tangible way.
