Bangkok: The government has urged citizens to apply for flood relief funds by registering through both the government's app and local administrative organizations in their area. The emphasis is on linking bank accounts to PromptPay for faster disbursement of relief funds.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Ploytalay Laksmisangchan, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, announced that due to the recent flooding, the government has instructed relevant agencies to provide appropriate care and relief to flood victims. The Cabinet has approved the criteria, conditions, and methods for disbursing flood relief funds during the 2026 rainy season, along with a budget framework, to urgently alleviate the suffering of the people.
In cases where a permanent residence is flooded for no more than seven days and property is damaged, or if the residence is flooded continuously for more than seven days, assistance of 9,000 baht per household will be provided. The residence must be located in an area declared a disaster zone or a designated assistance zone, and assistance will be provided only once per household. In cases of death directly caused by landslides and flooding, assistance of 2,000,000 baht per person will be provided for funeral expenses.
Ms. Ploytalay detailed the registration process for receiving assistance, which can be submitted through two channels. Citizens can register through the "Government" application, which links to the civil registration database for immediate verification, allowing them to track their status in real-time. Alternatively, documents can be submitted in person at local administrative organizations, where officials will facilitate the entry of information into the system.
The Prime Minister has instructed that relief efforts for the public be expedited. Eligible citizens are urged to ensure their PromptPay accounts are linked to their national identification numbers, as the Government Savings Bank will only transfer relief funds to eligible PromptPay accounts. Importantly, local agencies have been instructed to gradually submit verified data into the system without waiting for complete village-wide data collection, allowing the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation to promptly send the data to the Government Savings Bank for transferring funds to disaster victims.
