Government Expedites Unemployment Payments Amid System Upgrade

Bangkok: The government announced that the Social Security Office (SSO) is accelerating the disbursement of unemployment benefits to insured persons starting January 20, 2026, to alleviate the hardship of affected employees. The SSO emphasized its commitment to strictly protecting the rights of insured persons in accordance with the law.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Airin Phanrit, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that the government, through the Social Security Office, Ministry of Labour, has undertaken a major digital upgrade and transition from a mainframe system, which has been in use for over 30 years, to a web application system. This aims to modernize, enhance convenience, and improve the security of the Social Security Office's services. During this transition period, it is necessary to upgrade the data processing system for importing employment registration information from the Department of Employment into the new system.

The government assures insured persons that there is no need to worry about data loss. The Social Security Office confirms that insured persons' registration data in the old system remains intact and will not be lost. Currently, the accuracy of the data is being verified and transferred to improve the efficiency and stability of the service system. The Social Security Office has already begun gradually transferring benefit payments to eligible insured persons since January 20, 2026, and will expedite transfers in order of data completeness. Insured persons can check the status of their unemployment compensation approval through the Department of Employment's unemployment registration system, as detailed below.

If the status shows "Pending Review," it means that your application is currently under review by the Bangkok Metropolitan Social Security Office and the provincial/branch Social Security Office.

If the status shows "Reviewed/Approved," please wait for the transfer of funds, which are being expedited in order. Once the money has been successfully deposited into your account, the amount will appear in your reporting appointment schedule.

'The government, through the Social Security Office and the Ministry of Labour, reaffirms its commitment to strictly protect the rights of insured persons in accordance with the law. We are also committed to facilitating and expediting the payment of unemployment benefits accurately, transparently, and comprehensively. We emphasize that every baht and every satang is accounted for; it is being processed according to the system to ensure insured persons receive their rights fully, correctly, and fairly. This will help alleviate hardship and build confidence in the social security system in the long run,' Ms. Airin stressed.
