Bangkok: The government has confirmed that the Social Security Board election will take place as scheduled on September 27, 2026, addressing concerns among insured persons about any potential delays or obstructions.
According to Thai News Agency, Lieutenant Colonel Patthadarasmi Thongslueykorn, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, clarified that the Minister of Labour has guaranteed that the election will proceed without any hindrance. Despite an appeal related to the Administrative Court's order to revoke the postponement, she emphasized that this legal action is standard procedure and does not imply any attempt to cancel the election.
The plans for the election include significant progress, with a large number of employers and insured persons already registered to vote. Approximately 50% of eligible voters, amounting to around 5 million individuals, are expected to participate. In response, the Ministry of Labour is expanding the number of polling stations from over 2,000 to more than 5,000, reaching the district level to facilitate the voting process for a larger number of participants.
Efforts are underway to develop guidelines for identifying valid and invalid ballots and establishing a system to prevent duplicate voting, ensuring a seamless and efficient election process. The Deputy Spokesperson emphasized the government's dedication to safeguarding the rights and interests of all insured persons and encouraged both employers and insured individuals to vote on September 27, 2026. The election represents an opportunity for voters to influence the future management of the fund and the benefits for insured persons.
