Government Disburses First Batch of Flood Relief Payments to Thousands

Chiang Mai:The government has initiated the disbursement of flood relief payments, with over 68 million baht allocated to 8,219 households. The funds are being transferred to recipients' accounts today as part of the first batch of compensation payments.

According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, Ms. Lalida Periswiwatana, reported that the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) is working swiftly to provide financial aid to flood victims, ensuring a timely and appropriate response to the disaster.

Dr. Sirithorn Somsuwan of the DDPM outlined the three-part assistance program. The first part involves emergency funds for housing repairs, rental expenses, livelihood tools, and compensation for injuries and funerals. Applicants can submit requests through local administrative organizations.

The second part provides financial assistance under a Cabinet resolution, covering 66 provinces including Samut Songkhram. Depending on flood duration and severity, households may receive 9,000 baht or 5,000 baht. The Government Savings Bank is tasked with transferring funds after verification by DDPM.

The third part includes the government's disaster insurance program, active from October 2026 to October 2027, covering housing and bodily injury. Compensation of 2 million baht has been paid to the heirs of a flood victim in Chiang Mai, while another claim in Sing Buri is under review.

Citizens can apply for assistance via the "Government Application" or at local offices. The DDPM aims to expedite processing to ensure prompt relief for affected individuals. The government encourages those in the first batch to check their PromptPay accounts for the transferred funds.
