Khlong Ban Ma:The government has clarified the situation regarding parking fees at MRT Khlong Ban Ma station, emphasizing that there was no extortion involved. It has been announced that if vehicles are removed from the parking facilities by October 2, 2026, the MRTA will provide a full refund of the parking fees.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Lalida Periswiwatana, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, addressed the issue following social media discussions about parking fees collected during a flood situation. She clarified that these fees were paid before the Mass Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) declared a free parking period from September 26 to October 2, 2026.
Ms. Lalida explained that prior to the announcement of free parking, individuals parking their cars were charged the usual rate. Some opted for a monthly subscription at 1,000 baht, which was a more economical choice compared to daily parking rates.
After the MRTA announced free parking measures to support those impacted by the flooding, it informed those who had already paid that they would receive a full refund if they removed their vehicles by the specified date. Refunds for those who paid by credit card will be processed through banks, taking about 15 days to reflect in the cardholder's account.
Ms. Lalida emphasized the government's understanding of the difficulties faced by the public due to flooding and reiterated the intent to ease these burdens through the free parking measures. The MRTA confirmed that refunds will be issued to those who paid before the free parking announcement, provided vehicles are removed by October 2nd, under the set terms and conditions.
