Government Accelerates Social Welfare Reform with AI and Big Data

Bangkok: The government is accelerating a major reform of the social welfare system, using Big Data and AI to connect databases across the entire system, reducing redundancy and reaching people more directly. Captain Patthadarasmi Thongsalooykorn revealed that the government is moving forward with a significant upgrade to the social welfare system. The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security is accelerating the reform of the central welfare database by utilizing Big Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to connect citizen data and relevant agencies across the system. This aims to address duplication of information, increase accuracy in assistance, and enable citizens to access their rights more quickly.

According to Thai News Agency, the government prioritizes the use of digital technology to improve the quality of life for citizens, especially vulnerable groups such as the elderly, people with disabilities, children, and low-income individuals. Previously, each agency had its own separate database, leading to issues of omissions and ineffective assistance.

The Ministry of Social Development and Human Resources (MSDHR) is accelerating the development of the "MSDHR Care" system, a central platform for social welfare. This platform will support online applications for assistance, eligibility checks, and data linkage with relevant government agencies. It will utilize AI for in-depth data analysis to efficiently assess hardship and prioritize assistance.

The Ministry of Social Development and Human Resources' Big Data-AI system will enable the government to see a real-time overview of social problems at the household, community, and high-risk area levels. These problems include poverty, domestic violence, elderly people living alone, and children dropping out of school, leading to more accurate and proactive policy formulation.

The government believes that upgrading the welfare database will be a significant turning point in Thailand's public welfare system, shifting from scattered assistance to a smart welfare state that uses data and technology to drive targeted, transparent, and more comprehensive assistance.
