Mae Sai: Anutin Charnvirakul, Minister of Interior, has assured that the flooding in Mae Sai is under control, with all necessary forces being mobilized to assist in managing the situation.
According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul addressed the flood situation in Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai Province, stating that the situation has been well-managed since it was first reported on Friday. Personnel from administrative and military sectors have been mobilized, with the Director-General of the Royal Thai Army Engineering Department on-site to help mitigate flooding. Assistance has been provided to prevent the situation from escalating to a disaster zone level, with the governor and the Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation present in the area. Anutin emphasized the need for officials to remain in the region to prepare for potential future flooding, urging neighboring provinces to clear waterways to prevent blockages.
Anutin further mentioned that the Prime Minister, though abroad, has expressed concern over the flood situation in the North. The Prime Minister's Secretary-General has communicated with Anutin to offer support from the central government. Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Phumtham Vejjayachai, who is in the southern border provinces, has also been in touch with the Ministry of Defense to ensure there are no obstacles in providing aid to those affected by the floods.
Despite the current situation being under control, Anutin highlighted the importance of ongoing prevention efforts. With expectations of intermittent rain continuing, he noted that the flood barriers and dams constructed since last year are anticipated to be completed by June. Provinces are expediting the dredging of pipes and waterways to ensure effective drainage, indicating an improved state of preparedness compared to the previous year.
