Fire at Algiers Orphanage Claims 11 Lives, Injures 19

Algiers: A massive fire broke out at an orphanage on the outskirts of Algiers, the Algerian capital, in the early hours of Thursday morning, killing at least 11 people and injuring 19 others. The fire originated inside the orphanage located in the Mohammadia district, an eastern suburb of Algiers.

According to Thai News Agency, the disaster prevention and mitigation agency revealed that among the injured, 10 suffered burns of varying severity. Meanwhile, rescue and emergency personnel promptly evacuated five disabled individuals from the building to a safe area. Firefighters continue to work to control the situation. Initially, the identities and ages of those who died have not been released, and the exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

This tragedy occurred at a time when Algeria has been experiencing a severe heatwave in recent days. According to the Algerian National News Agency, citing a report from the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation on Wednesday, firefighters across the country have been deployed to control and extinguish 913 wildfires and other fires since July 8th.
