Tak Bai:An explosion at a PT gas station in Tak Bai district resulted in significant damage and two injuries. The perpetrators used a sidecar motorcycle to transport explosives, which they detonated after chasing away the employees.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred at the Taba branch of the PT gas station, located in Ban Pulanibong, when an improvised explosive device (IED) was placed in front of the station and detonated, damaging fuel dispensers and the building. Two employees, Mr. Hamasaidi, 35, and Ms. Sawitah Uma, 33, were injured, experiencing chest tightness and ear ringing. They received first aid and were later allowed to return home for further treatment.
Authorities, including police and military officials, have cordoned off the area for investigation, fearing the presence of dangerous objects or evidence. Officials are urging the public to avoid the area for safety reasons.
Security intelligence suggests the attack might be retaliation for a recent drug seizure operation. On September 30, 2026, authorities confiscated 600 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine valued at over 40 million baht in Tak Bai, potentially impacting drug funding sources for violent extremists.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities planning to examine the crime scene, analyze the explosive device, and review CCTV footage to identify and prosecute those responsible.
