Bangkok: The Election Commission has clarified the circumstances surrounding Nattawut Wongniem's brief tenure as a member of the Sub-Committee for Resolving Issues and Disputes, specifically Committee No. 12. This clarification comes after former Election Commissioner Somchai Srisutthiyakorn's Facebook post and subsequent media reports questioned the Commission's decision to appoint Nattawut, who had been dismissed from civil service, to the subcommittee.
According to Thai News Agency, the Election Commission Office stated that the reports regarding Nattawut's appointment were misleading. After his appointment to Sub-Committee No. 12, the Office sought cooperation from the Office of the Attorney General concerning Nattawut's work. However, they received a notification on April 19, 2019, confirming that Nattawut was no longer a public prosecutor. Consequently, the Election Commission appointed another individual to replace him.
Nattawut's involvement with the subcommittee lasted only 57 days, during which he did not participate in any meetings or handle any case files. The Election Commission emphasized that Nattawut was never invited to attend subcommittee meetings, nor did he receive any documents related to case proceedings. Therefore, the notion that he had access to any case information is unfounded.
