Prachin Buri: Dwarf bonsai trees from Ban Dong Bang, Khilek Subdistrict, have become a lucrative export product, earning hundreds of thousands in income monthly. Ban Dong Bang is recognized as the largest source of tree species in Thailand, and it plays a vital role in the export of bonsai and dwarf trees. According to Thai News Agency, Prasert Bonsai Garden, owned by Thanapat Srisuk and his wife Namoi Srisuk, spans over 5 rai in Village No. 6, Dong Khilek Subdistrict, Mueang District, Prachin Buri Province. This garden specializes in cultivating trees meant for bonsai, including mango trees, chapattavia trees, dwarf kaew trees, water plum trees, dwarf guava trees, jasmine trees, takho trees, needle trees, Thai cassia trees, cherries, and tamarind trees. The process involves planting the trees in small pots until they mature. Unwanted parts are trimmed, and branches are bent using aluminum wire to achieve desired shapes, as per customer specifications. The wire remains until the branches grow into the shape , after which it's removed, and the tree is trimmed again before being dispatched to customers. Thanapat Srisuk emphasized that young trees are unsuitable for bending, as they tend to break. He recommends beginners start with water plum and chapattavia trees due to their affordability and flexibility. The art of making dwarf bonsai trees is akin to pressing the wood to guide its growth. In addition to local sales at Chatuchak, the garden exports to countries including India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, Canada, and Singapore. This international trade generates a monthly income of 100,000-200,000 baht.
