Doctor Runner Abandons Marathon to Save Lives of Two Cardiac Arrest Victims

Buriram: "Dr. Bo," a doctor and marathon runner, made the decision to voluntarily exit the Buriram Marathon 2026 before finishing the race to provide critical medical aid to two fellow runners who suffered cardiac arrest during the event. Despite not completing the marathon, she expressed pride in fulfilling her duty as a healthcare professional.

According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Sasaya Kongsakul, known as "Dr. Bo," shared on her YouTube channel, Dr BO JOURNEY, that she was participating in the half-marathon to assist a friend in achieving a personal best. However, she chose to stop approximately 4 km from the finish line to administer CPR to two runners in distress. Dr. Bo accompanied the ambulance to ensure the runners received necessary medical care, feeling relieved when their heartbeats were restored.

After addressing the first incident, Dr. Bo was alerted to a second cardiac arrest case while still in the ambulance. Alongside a nursing team, she utilized an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to revive the second runner, who was subsequently taken to Buriram Hospital for further treatment.

Dr. Bo acknowledged that while she did not complete her initial goal, the situation required her to prioritize her obligations as a medical professional. She commended the marathon organizers for their preparedness, highlighting the quick arrival and comprehensive equipment of the ambulances. Such efficient management significantly improved the chances of survival and recovery for the affected runners.
