Bangkok: Deputy Minister of Interior 3 has directed the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation to declare a disaster zone following the fire at Khlong Thom market.

According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Minister Mr. Jetseth Thaiseth has ordered the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation to establish a disaster zone around the Khlong Thom Center fire site on Charachak Road, Pom Prap Subdistrict, Pom Prap Sattru Phai District. The fire, which erupted on August 28, resulted in injuries to 11 individuals and caused damage to approximately 4 rai of land. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) declared an emergency disaster relief zone on August 29, 2026, setting up a "Fire Victim Registration Center" to streamline the process for affected citizens to apply for assistance. The center will handle the receipt of applications, verification of victim details, and documentation of damages, which are necessary for the disbursement of aid according to set criteria.

Affected individuals are encouraged to submit applications detailing the extent of their damages to officials, who will then conduct investigations and assessments of the damages to property, homes, and livelihoods. This collected information will aid in providing timely assistance.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration is set to offer initial aid, covering living expenses, rent, medical costs, and occupational equipment. Concurrently, the DDPM will assist in repairing damaged residences, covering costs up to 88,600 baht per house.

Mr. Jetseth has instructed all relevant agencies to accelerate damage assessments, claims processing, and documentation verification to ensure rapid and thorough assistance. He stressed the need for supporting affected individuals to resume their normal lives and work as swiftly as possible, underscoring the Ministry of Interior's commitment to caring for its citizens and ensuring they receive full and timely assistance.
