Songkhla: Deputy Minister of Interior, Mr. Jetseth Thaiseth, visited Songkhla to accelerate the work of the Public Works and Town Planning Department on the Khuan Lang drainage system. Accompanied by Mr. Teerapat Khachamat, Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, and Mr. Pongnara Yenying, Director-General of the Department of Public Works and Town Planning, the visit aimed to inspect the progress of the Phase 1 drainage system project designed to mitigate flooding in the Khuan Lang community of Hat Yai District.
According to Thai News Agency, the delegation, which included Mr. Jirawat Suwanlikhit, Inspector-General of the Department of Public Works and Town Planning, and Mr. Maitri Sarppasin, Director-General of Public Works and Town Planning for Songkhla Province, focused on ensuring the project's readiness to handle heavy rainfall. The Deputy Minister emphasized the need for swift completion and efficient operation, especially during the rainy season when the risk of flooding is high.
Mr. Jetseth underscored the importance of expediting the remaining work and preparing for the next phase of the project. He urged all agencies to collaborate closely to ensure effective water management and minimize the impact on the public. The Songkhla Provincial Department of Public Works and Town Planning reported that the current phase includes constructing embankment protection dams, gate structures, and drainage channels, with the aim of improving drainage efficiency and reducing flooding in the Khuan Lang community.
The Department is also preparing for Phase 2 of the project, scheduled to commence by the end of 2026, and for additional construction in the Kho Hong community in the fiscal year 2027. These efforts aim to expand the flood drainage solution in Hat Yai and surrounding areas, creating a comprehensive system.
With an emphasis on quality and structural integrity, the Department of Public Works and Town Planning is committed to ensuring the drainage system can operate at full potential.
