Deputy Minister Denies Political Motives in Land Inspection Order

SARABURI: Deputy Minister of Agriculture Itthi Sirilathayakorn has refuted claims that political motives influenced his decision to prevent a key official from inspecting a contentious land area, emphasizing a commitment to the legal process and ruling out any connection to the recent expulsion of 20 MPs from the Palang Pracharath Party. According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Itthi addressed the controversy over his directive that barred Mr. Thanadol Suwannarit, head of a working group tasked with investigating land issues, from visiting Rai Phu Nub Dao in Saraburi Province. The Deputy Minister stated that the decision was made to avoid political interference and to allow civil servants and relevant agencies, such as the National Anti-Corruption Commission and the Natural Resources and Environmental Crime Suppression Division, to conduct their work without political pressure. Mr. Itthi, a member of the Kla Tham Party, insisted that his actions were not politically motivated and denied any connection to the rece nt expulsion of 20 MPs from the Palang Pracharath Party. He stressed adherence to legal frameworks and expressed confidence in the ability of civil servants to address the matter independently, ensuring transparency and accountability. Addressing public expectations regarding the investigation, Mr. Itthi noted that Mr. Preecha Limthawil, deputy secretary-general of the ALRO, had already initiated efforts in collaboration with relevant agencies to ensure a thorough and lawful examination. The Deputy Minister reiterated the importance of following legal processes and ensuring that investigations proceed without unnecessary political involvement. Mr. Itthi also clarified that issues related to financial investigations would be handled by the National Anti-Corruption Commission and law enforcement, distancing himself from these aspects to maintain focus on legal adherence and prevent any allegations of impropriety.
