Yarang: A deputy district chief of the Khao Tum Subdistrict Administrative Organization was shot dead in front of a mosque while he was returning home after Friday prayers. Police are not ruling out any possible motives.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident took place on October 17, 2015, at 1:00 PM when an unknown group of assailants opened fire on the deputy head of the Khao Tum Subdistrict Administrative Organization, killing him instantly. The attack happened in front of the Koh Bator Mosque in Yarang District, Pattani Province, as the victim was leaving after Friday prayers.
The shooting occurred at the entrance/exit of the Koh Bator Mosque in Village No. 2, Koh Bator Subdistrict, Yarang District, Pattani Province. Police from Yarang Police Station, together with the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team and other officials, quickly arrived at the scene to investigate.
Initial findings identified the deceased as Mr. Muhammad Noor, a well-known and respected secretary of the Khao Tum Subdistrict Administrative Organization. He sustained fatal gunshot wounds to the torso and head as he was driving home from the mosque.
Police have cordoned off the area and are actively collecting evidence, including bullet casings and CCTV footage from the vicinity to trace the assailants' escape route.
Authorities are not excluding any potential motives behind the attack, such as personal conflicts, local political issues, or attempts to incite unrest in the southern border provinces. Security officials are intensifying their investigation efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure justice is served.
